Research on health communication and health literacy serves SDG 4 by promoting quality health education and SDG 3 by empowering individuals to make informed health decisions, reducing health inequalities, and building resilient health systems, ultimately contributing to the overarching goal of ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all.

Description of Subtheme:

The main aim is to understand how information is transmitted, received, and comprehended by people and communities and to improve health outcomes and patient empowerment, researchers look at practical approaches to health education, patient-provider communication, and the promotion of health literacy.

Research Action Plan:

  1. Investigate the effectiveness of different health communication strategies in disseminating health information, promoting health behaviors, and influencing health outcomes.
  2. Examines risk communication strategies during public health emergencies, disease outbreaks, and natural disasters, assessing the role of communication channels, message framing, and audience characteristics in shaping risk perceptions and behavioral responses.
  3. Determine communication dynamics within clinical encounters, assessing provider communication styles, patient preferences, and communication barriers that impact patient understanding, adherence to treatment plans, and satisfaction with care.
