It aims to maintain a balance between economic development and environmental quality by exploring socio-economic possibilities to reduce pollution and uplift the standard of living. Economists have formulated economy-environment models to explain the various economic activities and their external effects.

This subtheme aligns with four SDGs. SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Research in this subtheme contributes by developing sustainable healthcare models that balance economic and environmental factors, ensuring healthcare systems are both effective and environmentally sustainable. SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) By promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in healthcare facilities. SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): By promoting sustainable practices within the healthcare sector, this subtheme supports the goal of responsible consumption and production, focusing on efficient resource use and reducing environmental impact. Finally, SDG 13 (Climate Action): This subtheme’s focus on integrating environmental considerations into healthcare practices aligns with the goal of combating climate change, as it promotes sustainable practices that reduce the healthcare sector’s carbon footprint and overall environmental impact.

The subtheme of "Sustainable Healthcare & Development in Business" focuses on integrating sustainable practices and principles into the healthcare sector from a business perspective. It recognizes the importance of addressing environmental concerns and social equity within the healthcare industry while promoting economic growth and development. This interdisciplinary field aims to find innovative solutions that balance the provision of quality healthcare services with environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

The topic of sustainable healthcare and development in business is of crucial importance due to several reasons. Firstly, the healthcare sector has a significant impact on the environment, including energy consumption, waste generation, and the use of potentially harmful substances. By adopting sustainable practices, such as reducing carbon emissions, promoting waste reduction and recycling, and using environmentally friendly materials, the healthcare industry can minimize its ecological footprint and contribute to a healthier environment.

Secondly, sustainable healthcare practices also have social and economic benefits. By implementing resource-efficient strategies, healthcare organizations can reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the overall quality of care. Additionally, sustainable healthcare practices can contribute to social equity by ensuring equal access to healthcare services, promoting community engagement, and addressing health disparities.
