Dr. Ammar Houry is a Former Member of the Lebanese Parliament. Dr. Houry’s profile is very rich, with more than 35 years of experience as a dental surgeon and member of various humanitarian associations. He has acted as a Member of the University Council at BAU since the year 1994. He is also a Representative of the Board of Trustees of Bir wal Ihsan.

Dr. Houry has acted as a Member of the Council of the Faculty of Dentistry at BAU since 1995. Previously, Dr. Houry assumed the roles of the President of Beirut Dentists League (1995-2004) and Vice President of the Lebanese Dental Association (2003-2005). He is also a previous Member of Beirut Municipality Council (1998-2004) and President of the Lebanese Chess Federation (1997-2007) and Asian Chess Federation (2002-2006).

Dr. Houry has obtained his degree in Oral and Dental Surgery from Cairo University, Egypt in 1981. Besides his political work, Dr. Houry has many years of experience as a Dental Surgeon; He has published several works related to politics, dentistry, poetry, and social and cultural affairs.


BAU-ismail-Serageldin

Prof. Ismail Serageldin

Librarian Emeritus and Former Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina.


Prof. Ismail Serageldin has held the role of the Founding Director of Bibliotheca Alexandria (BA), the new Library of Alexandria since its inauguration in 2002 until May, 2017. Currently, he is Librarian Emeritus and Member of the BoT of BA. Serageldin is advisor to the Egyptian Prime Minister in matters related to culture, science, and museums and Chair or Member of a number of advisory committees. He is a member of several national and international committees and panels. He has held several international positions including Vice President of the World Bank, Chairman Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research and Founder and Former Chairman of the Global Water Partnership and the Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest.

Prof. Serageldin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Cairo University; He holds a Master’s degree with distinction from Harvard University and a PhD from the same university. He has assumed several academic and consultancy roles in regional planning. Prof. Serageldin has been honored with several international awards from Japan, France, Chile, India, and Canada. He has published over 100 books and over 500 papers on various topics. He has been featured on television in Egypt for a cultural program and a T.V. science series.

Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar

President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport.


Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar is the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport. Before he assumed this position, Prof. Ghaffar had joined the Military Technical College (MTC) as a member of the teaching staff in 1989, where he rose through the ranks to become Dean in January 2009. Prof. Abdel Ghaffar had held several positions in the Military Technical College (MTC), including Dean, MTC Commandant, Vice-Dean, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Head of Chair of Electrical Engineering Branch, and others.

Prof. Abdel Ghaffar earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Electrical Engineering from the Military Technical College with honors. He attained his Master’s degree from Cairo University. He also holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University, USA. Prof. Abdel Ghaffar has extensive experience in teaching, supervision of theses and dissertations, and membership in judging committees. He has also published various national and international papers in the areas of Computer Science and Computer Engineering.

Engineer Fathallah Fawzy

Chairman of the Egyptian-Lebanese Businessmen Friendship Association.


Fathallah Fawzi is the founder and chairperson of MENA for Real Estate Development Consultancy, with more than 35 years of experience as a real estate development expert and entrepreneur. His diverse background has enabled him to found several companies where he performed more than 100 distinguished projects in Egypt and abroad.

Fathallah Fawzi has formulated and led large project teams encompassing national and international consultants and has gained extensive experience in real estate development value chain. He has managed Egypt’s Leading Master Developer, “El Mostakbal for Urban Development”.


BAU- Saeed-Jazaerli

Prof. Mohammad Saeed Jazaerli

Member of the Board of Trustees of the Bir wal Ihsan.


Prof. Mohammad Saeed Jazaerli, Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at BAU. Prof. Jazaerli is the founder of JAZAIRI Consulting Office, which has grown into a multidisciplinary architectural and planning office. Previously, Prof. Jazaerli has assumed the role of Professor at the Lebanese University in the Institute of Beaux-Arts; he has held memberships of various councils and jury committees in Lebanon. Prof. Jazaerli has performed various national and international projects including residential buildings, office buildings, and industrial buildings in Germany, France, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Alexandia, and Lebanon.

Prof. Jazaerli holds a PhD in Architecture from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. He holds a Town Planning Diploma from the University of Sorbonne, Paris. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture with honors from Beirut Arab University. Besides an academic and consulting experience, Prof. Jazaerli has performed advising for Masters and PhD theses and dissertations and held membership of jury committees at several higher education institutions.

Prof. Fawzi Adham

Head of the Criminal Court in Bekaa.

Prof. Fawzi Adham is the Examining Magistrate in Mount Lebanon. He has given lectures in many institutes and faculties. He has performed supervision and acted as a member of the panel for numerous theses and dissertations in law and Islamic studies.

Prof. Adham has a BA in Law from the Lebanese University (1975), a Diploma in General Law from the Lebanese University (1979), a Diploma from the Institute of Juridical Studies in Lebanon (1981) and a PhD in Comparative Legal Studies from Al Iman Al Quzai University for Islamic Studies (1991). He has published various research papers in law.

BAU-amr-galal

Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi

President of Beirut Arab University


Prof. Amr Galal El-Adawi took office as BAU’s 12th president on August 2006. Prof. El-Adawi has many years of academic and professional experience. He has served as Professor of Architecture at the University of Alexandria and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He has also served as consultant for the Architectural Design Unit at the Office of the Minister of Culture and for Mubarak City for Scientific Research and Technological Applications. He has served as member of the supreme committee for promotion of academic staff in Egyptian Universities and of the High Supreme Court for Values in Egypt.

Prof. El-Adawi holds an M.Sc. in Architecture from Alexandria University and a PhD in Urban Design from Liverpool University, England. He has performed groundbreaking research, attended various conferences, and taught at a number of universities. Prof. El-Adawi has performed various projects and worked as a consultant in many. He has served as member of various judging committees and as a consultant and designer of various projects.

BAU-omar-houri

Dr. Omar Houri

Secretary General of Beirut Arab University.


Since 2015, Dr. Omar Houri holds the post of the Secretary General of Beirut Arab University. Dr. Houri is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Human Rights Center at BAU since 2009.

Dr. Houri received his undergraduate degree in Law from BAU in 1994. He has been a member of the Lebanese Bar Association since 1995. He holds two LL.M.s, the first from Duke University School of Law, Durham, North Carolina, USA in 1996 and the second from Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, Germany in 2001. He earned a PhD in Constitutional Law from Ludwig Maximillian’s University, Munich, Germany in 2004. He has several publications in Arabic, English, and German.
