Biography

Dr. Bilal Azakir is an Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, Beirut Arab University. He earned his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Montreal in 2008 and conducted postdoctoral research at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, and the University Hospital of Basel, focusing on muscular dystrophies and therapeutic strategies. He currently teaches Medical Biochemistry, leads biomedical research, supervises student and resident projects, and promotes research training across undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Research Interests

Medical biochemistry, molecular and translational medicine, skeletal muscle biology, muscular dystrophies, metabolic and inflammatory disorders, cancer biology, cellular signaling, autophagy and apoptosis, aging, and molecular mechanisms of disease. Additional interests include biomarker discovery, therapeutic target identification, experimental cell models, and translational research aimed at bridging basic biomedical science with clinical applications.

Education & Qualifications

PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Montreal, Canada (2008). Advanced postdoctoral research training at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, Canada, followed by research experience at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland. His training focused on molecular mechanisms of disease, muscular dystrophies, cell signaling, and development of therapeutic strategies, providing a strong foundation in molecular biology, translational medicine, biomedical research, and medical biochemistry.

Teaching Areas

Medical Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, and Translational Medicine. Teaching also includes biochemical mechanisms of disease, cellular signaling, metabolism, genetics, and the molecular basis of human disorders. Additional teaching activities involve research methodology, critical appraisal of scientific literature, evidence-based medicine, and supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate, and residency research projects.
