Biography
Dr. Bilal Khaled Taher is a mechanical engineer and academic at Beirut Arab University (BAU), Tripoli Branch, where he teaches thermodynamics, heat transfer, thermal power stations, heat and mass transfer, probability and statistics, and a PhD-level course. His research addresses thermo-mechanical coupling in transient mode, damage of multi-material and multi-layer systems, homogenization techniques, magneto-rheological dampers, fluid–structure interaction, and renewable energy systems including photovoltaic, thermal solar, and bio-hydrogen hybrid systems. He has published in international journals and ASME conferences, and supervises final-year and Master's projects in energy, HVAC, and ren
Research Interests
Dr. Taher's research specializes in thermo-mechanical coupling and damage analysis of multi-material systems, such as engine cylinders and heat exchangers, using homogenization techniques. His interests also include magneto-rheological dampers, fluid-structure interaction, and renewable energy systems (PVT, bio-hydrogen, cogeneration, and wastewater treatment optimization), bridging fundamental modeling with applied HVAC and sustainable energy solutions.
Education & Qualifications
Dr. Taher holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Design (2012) from the SET Laboratory at the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), France. Funded by the Francophonie University Agency (AUF), his thesis focused on modeling thermo-mechanical coupling in transient mode of multi-materials subject to damage. He earned a Master's degree in General Mechanics (2003) from the University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC), France, in partnership with the Lebanese University and UTBM. He also holds a Diploma of Engineering in Mechanics (2002) from the Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering, Branch I, Tripoli.
Teaching Areas
At Beirut Arab University (BAU), Tripoli Branch, Dr. Taher teaches Thermodynamics I & II, Heat Transfer, HVAC and Sanitation, Heat and Mass Transfer, Thermal Power Stations, Probability and Statistics, and a PhD-level course. He actively teaches HVAC and FTSD, alongside Renewable Energy, Turbomachinery, Refrigeration, and Cogeneration, and supervises final-year and Master's projects in sustainable thermal and energy systems.
Awards & Recognition
In July 2025, Dr. Taher's supervised graduation project, "Towards Sustainable Energy at Dar Al Shifa Hospital," won Second Place in the Environmental Engineering category at the 12th Annual Graduation Projects Competition (Tripoli Order of Engineers). He also served as Head of Hayzouk Municipality (2019–2022) and is an active member of the Tripoli Engineers Syndicate's scientific and legal committees.
