OSCE, a student evaluation tool, applied for the first time at Faculty of Pharmacy, BAU

30 September 2014

In its continuous efforts to cope with the recent trends in pharmacy education, the Faculty of Pharmacy has applied a new student evaluation tool. As of September 30, 2014, our Pharmacy Practice Department PPD has incorporated the Objective Structured Clinical Examination, commonly known as OSCE, for the evaluation of students going through the Professional Pharmacy Practice PPP course series. Being a practice simulation examination using standardized patients in a controlled environment, OSCE offers a valuable tool for the evaluation of professional competencies acquired during the PPP courses. A team comprising faculty, instructors, and experts in student evaluation and communication convened over the course of several weeks to design and validate examination stations that offered a fair, objective, and reliable measures of students acquired skills. With that said, the highlight of this delightful experience was the unhesitant superb response by our students. congratulations to the Faculty of Pharmacy, and more importantly, to fifth year students on their achievement in this initial experience that sets solid ground for many more rounds to come.
