The Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with BAU Entrepreneurs Hub, organized a workshop entitled “Family Disaster Plan” for high school and university students. Dr. Salah Ghandour conducted the workshop and emphasized the importance of dealing with a disaster defined as “a sudden, calamitous event that seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society and causes human, material, and economic or environmental losses that exceed the community’s or society’s ability to cope using its own resources”. The workshop aimed at discussing the family preparedness plan for such an event to reduce the stress of the unexpected consequences. The objectives covered the different types of disasters and identifying the common ones in some countries and explaining the elements of the family disaster plan including what to do before, during and after the disaster. The workshop was concluded by an interactive discussion on the contents of the personal and family emergency kits and the importance and use of each item.
