Senior Project Competition – Department of Computer Science – Faculty of science

The Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, Beirut Arab University, recently hosted a highly successful Senior Project Competition on May 30th, 2023. This event aimed to bridge the gap between academia and real-world applications, providing a platform for students to showcase their innovative senior projects to esteemed industry representatives.

The Senior Project Competition witnessed an impressive turnout, with various prominent companies actively participating and evaluating the projects. Among the distinguished company representatives were ICC Group, ATS, IDS, Vanrise, AI Directions (Dubai), Quantum Trading, Certiport, ITLS, and Ciment de Sibline. Their presence not only provided valuable industry insights but also offered a unique opportunity for students to network and establish connections with potential employers.

Under the scope of the “ELEGANT” Erasmus+ project top senior projects developed by talented students from the Department of Computer Science were presented. Each project was evaluated by the attending companies based on its technical excellence, practicality, and potential real-world applications. The competition was fierce, with participants demonstrating their skills and knowledge acquired during their academic journey. After careful consideration and evaluation, three exceptional senior projects were recognized as winners.

The first place winner project entitled “Health++” was conducted by the students Fayez Chebaro, Hiba Soubra, Omar Sawwas and Mohammad Abd Ul Razzak and supervised by Dr. Mahmoud Skafi. The project that won the second place entitled “Bade Salemtak” was conducted by the students Karam Timani, Rami ElSkakini, Nabil Mezher and Mohamad Chokor and supervised by Dr. Lama Affara. The third place winner project entitiled “Career Advisor” was conducted by the students Hussein Rahal, Jad Alayoubi, Sarah Jrab and Karim Deiss and supervised by Dr. Bilal Nakhal.

The impact of this Senior Project Competition went beyond mere recognition. The event provided a unique platform for students to engage directly with industry professionals, leading to several internship and career opportunities. Many participating companies were impressed by the talent and potential displayed by the students and expressed their interest in offering internship positions and future career prospects, and some companies have offered the winning students free online courses, exams and certificates.

The event's success has not only reaffirmed the dedication and commitment of the students and faculty but also highlighted the value of bridging the gap between academia and industry. The Department of Computer Science at Beirut Arab University takes pride in providing students with opportunities to connect with the professional world, empowering them to thrive in their future careers.
