The bachelor of computer science program, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science , Faculty of Science, Debbieh Site at Beirut Arab University is now accredited by the computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology(ABET) , a US accreditation body that evaluates academic curriculums worldwide. This comes as a result of the commitment of Dr. Amr Galal Al Adawi, president of Beirut Arab University towards academic improvement.

The accreditation of computer science program is considered an important accomplishment for BAU, whose main objective is to ensure the high quality standards of its academic programs. It will also increase the job opportunities for computer science graduates at Beirut Arab University, Debbieh Site.

The spirit of accreditation was totally carried on to all the faculty members of the Faculty of Science with Dr. Hanafy Holail, present vice president for academic affairs at BAU, who also served as a former dean of the Faculty of Science from 2006-2007 till 2011-2012. During that period, Dr. Holail never hesitated to give all the departments of the faculty, and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in particular, all the encouragement needed to get along with the tedious work of preparing all the documents to apply for the computer science program accreditation. It was not only the paper work that was crucial for that process, but it was also the inspiration that Dr. Holail has provided all the members of the department as well. This has triggered the enthusiasm of all the people involved to work together as one team and make all their efforts to accomplish this task. It was the sense of responsibility that was clearly felt during that period.

After words in 2012-2013, Dr. Rajaa Fakhoury was appointed as a Dean of the Faculty of Science. With new character and total dedicated professionalism, Dr. Fakhoury continued to peruse the accreditation of the computer science program and which has just paid off. “Abet accreditation of computer science program demonstrates a strong determination of the university to ensure high quality of education for our students. Accreditation requires a process of continuous improvement of our curriculums that paves the way to achieve excellence”, said Dr. Fakhoury, dean of the Faculty of Science.

“BAU after accreditation is never like before. It is quite a challenge for us to maintain our high level standards that will reflect on our students and faculty members as well”, said Dr. Ghassan Younes, assistant dean of the Faculty of Science.
 
“Abet accreditation provides us with ethics of excellence that will not only enrich our institution but will also help parents make the right decision about selecting the institution whose programs are accredited”, said Dr. Mohammad Abdulrahim, chairman of the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science . Dr. Abdulrahim also expressed his appreciations for all the efforts done on the behalf of the department faculty members, especially those involved in the computer science program, namely, Dr. Kabbani, Dr. Zaart, Dr. Zantout, Dr. Chreif; administrative assistants and all teaching assistants who were completely devoted to make such an accomplishment possible.

The coordinator for computer science accreditation in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, Dr. Islam Kabbani, has noted that accreditation, in spite of being a long trip of hard work, it gave us a lot of joy and we finally got rewarded hoping to continue our success in the near future.
