Dr. Mona Salem, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Built-Environment, has been awarded the highly competitive TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visit Programme (in collaboration with UNESCO). Presented across the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA), It is designed to initiate new research partnerships with German scientists, ultimately aiming at establishing long-term collaborations.

The grant comprised a three-month research visit to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Germany, a global leader in architectural education and research. Dr. Salem collaborated with leading experts, research groups, industrial partners including leading German material producers, and heritage associations and she was appointed a member of the university's International Heritage Center, as well as a member of the Energy Research Group at the Building Physics Professorship. Her work successfully bridges modern building science and technology with cultural preservation.

The visit outcomes included co-authored research publications and the establishment of continuous joint research work. This international link was solidified by presenting her findings at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's "Summaery 2025" exhibition and during a specialized colloquium. The visit offered profound academic and cultural enrichment, including inspiring excursions to cities like Erfurt, Berlin, and Dessau, complemented by exclusive access to the unique archives of the Bauhaus library and museums.
