General Rules for Graduate Assistantship

According to University regulations, students can earn financial support throughout their graduate studies by applying to the Graduate Assistantship (GA) Program.

Eligibility to apply for Graduate assistantship:

Criteria of eligibility are as follows:

  • Be registered as a full-time student with at least 6 credit hours per semester at Beirut Arab University
  • The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and not have holds or be on academic probation.
  • The student must apply for graduate assistantship before the semester begins.
Graduate assistantship appointment:
  • Graduate Assistants are appointed by semester and assigned to the Faculty requesting GA.
  • It is prohibited for students who are granted a graduate assistantship on a full-time basis to work outside the University. If so, the assistantship would directly cease.
  • It is also prohibited for students who benefit from graduate assistantships to be enrolled in courses or to be performing research work in other universities.
  • To receive a graduate assistantship, the student must be able to devote time to work at BAU.
Graduate student evaluation:

Graduate students are evaluated every semester. If the supervisor is unsatisfied with the student’s overall performance, the student’s graduate assistantship for the next semester will be discontinued.

Application submission:

Students must collect the application form from their Graduate advisor during the registration period and must submit it back to him within 1 week of the registration period.

Note: Applications won’t be accepted after the specified deadline

Tuition fees reduction:

The following schedule outlines how students can benefit from graduate assistantships in terms of reduction of tuition fees in return for a given number of working hours dedicated by the student:

Upon GA acceptance, students must:
  • Fill a timesheet listing the working hours and summarizing the duties performed.
  • Submit the timesheet to the supervisor of the graduate assistantship for signature.
  • Then, submit the timesheet to the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research for processing.
Duties and / or responsibilities:

This section lists the duties / responsibilities of GA students:

  • Conducting research
  • Assisting in teaching
  • Engaging in quality assurance work
  • Undertaking other relevant duties as assigned

Notes:
  • The graduate assistantship may not apply in all Faculties
  • All of the administrative work must be performed within university premises. BAU reserves the right to assign the graduate assistant work in any of the University campuses.
  • The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research will process the GA fees based on a consolidated log sheet, provided and signed by the Dean of the Faculty.
  • Each Faculty Administration is responsible for completing timely weekly and accurate log sheet which will be then compiled into a consolidated log sheet, knowing that the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research will only refer to the consolidated log sheet to process the dues.
  • All rules and regulations should be applied for the applications to be processed; Faculty Administrations should not accept any application from students who did not fulfill eligibility requirements (GPA, Time, etc.…)
