In response to Beirut blast, which led to the destruction of large areas of the capital city, and under the direction of BAU president, Prof. Amr Galal Al-Adawi, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design & Built Environment, Prof. Ibtihal Youssef El-Bastawissi, participated in a series of meetings with those in charge of rescue and damage operations, in order to organize the frameworks for assistance and support that BAU teams including students and staff members undertook on the ground since the first day of the explosion.
The dean participated in a series of meetings at the Order of Engineers and Architects in Beirut with representatives of the bodies working on sites. The first meeting held on Friday the 7th of August 2020 included a symbolic stand mourning the spirit of all the martyrs who fell in the explosion in addition to a preparatory reconstruction action plan for the possible interventions in the impacted areas.
Furthermore, the dean has contacted the Lebanese Army, Beirut municipality, as well as Khatib & Alami being the representative of the High Relief Commission.
During this session, Prof. Ibtihal EL-Bastawisi focused on the importance of a holistic perspective towards the impacted areas through a comprehensive study of all the targeted neighborhoods, knowing that these urban spaces constitute an essential part of the urban heritage that must be preserved.
