Signing of the Design and Construction Contract for Beirut Arab University Hospital with Khatib & Alami Group

Beirut Arab University, represented by its President,Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, has signed a contract with Engineering Consultants Group S.A.L. (Khatib & Alami), represented by Executive Vice President Engineer Faisal Alami. The agreement tasks the firm with preparing a comprehensive engineering study for the construction of the BAU University Hospital at the university’s main campus in Beirut.

The study covers all stages of multi-disciplinary engineering design, including data collection and conceptual design, schematic and detailed design. preparation of tender documents and assistance during the bidding phase, adherence to the highest international standards for university hospitals.

The project aims to establish a modern university hospital with an initial operational capacity of no less than 200 beds, expandable to 300 beds in the future. The facility will feature an integrated infrastructure to support medical education, scientific research, and specialized healthcare services. The design phase is scheduled to span 41 weeks.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Bir wal Ihsan and Chairman of the BAU Board of Trustees Dr. Ammar Houry, BAU Secretary General Dr. Omar Houri, University deans, directors, and a delegation from Khatib & Alami Group, Managers from Bank Audi, Bank of Beirut, and Lebanon & Gulf Bank.

Dr. Ammar Houry noted that “establishing a hospital has been a long-standing dream for BAU. While attempts were made in the early 1990s and licenses were obtained, circumstances at the time prevented the project from coming to fruition”. He highlighted that “this current phase gained momentum under Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam’s leadership, citing his extensive medical and administrative expertise as the former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Vice President of Alexandria University, where he oversaw 12 university hospitals”.

Houry concluded that “choosing Khatib & Alami Group followed a rigorous scientific selection process among three major firms, calling this "a day of hope and a pivotal step toward realizing a long-awaited dream”.

Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam stated:"since assuming the presidency in 2023, I committed myself and the university team to turning this dream into a reality. Today, we celebrate signing this contract with one of the most prominent specialized firms, not just in Lebanon, but in the Arab world”.

He added that “the hospital would serve as an educational lighthouse, providing students in the health sciences with world-class training environments while offering advanced healthcare to the people of Beirut and Lebanon amidst current sectoral challenges”.

Dr. Osama Demashkieh, Executive Vice President of Khatib & Alami Group thanked the university for its trust. He affirmed the “firm’s full readiness to undertake this significant responsibility, promising to deliver designs and studies that meet the highest professional and scientific standards befitting the project’s academic and medical importance”.
