In alignment with global technical and academic advancements in the oil and gas sector, the Petroleum Engineering Program at Beirut Arab University has launched two new specialized tracks designed to address the evolving needs of the industry:
- Environment and Sustainability
- Geoengineering
These tracks focus on advanced techniques and methodologies aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in the energy sector. They cover cutting-edge disciplines such as:
- Hydrogen Energy
- Carbon Capture and Storage
- Environmental Technologies
In conjunction with these developments, the Society of Petroleum Engineers – BAU Chapter hosted a technical seminar titled “The Role of Non-Destructive Testing in the Petroleum Industry and Quality Maintenance.” The seminar was led by Engineer Bahaa Abdel Baki, a graduate of Beirut Arab University’s Petroleum Engineering Program and currently serving as the Technical Sales and Business Development Engineer at IKK Petroleum Company in Saudi Arabia.
During his presentation, Engineer Abdel Baki highlighted the significance of non-destructive testing (NDT) and explored advanced technologies such as:
- Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)
- Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD)
- Digital Radiography (DR)
The session featured practical videos demonstrating the application of these technologies, enhancing the educational value of the event and contributing to its success.
Dr. Rami Harkous, Assistant Professor in the Petroleum Engineering Program at Beirut Arab University, emphasized the importance of such seminars. He praised the university’s commitment to keeping pace with technical and scientific advancements, which enriches students' knowledge and prepares them for the latest developments in the field. Dr. Harkous noted that these initiatives reflect a positive evolution in the academic and professional lives of petroleum engineering students.
