The Center for Teaching and Learning at Beirut Arab University, funded by the European Community, was launched within the framework of participation in the Erasmus+ program on the Professional Standards Framework for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Lebanese Universities (E-TALEB).

The event was attended by the Project Director Dr. Georges Yahshoushi from USEK, and Head of Erasmus+ office in Lebanon Dr. Aref Al-Safi, representatives of the participating universities and the General Directorate of Higher Education, faculty deans and assistant deans, members of the BAU Quality Assurance Committee as well as BAU’s representatives in the project Dean of Student Affairs Professor Soubhi Abou Chahine and Dean of Faculty of Human Sciences Professor Mayssa El Nayal. 

The event started with Dr. Yahshoushi explaining the project activities and its importance in higher education, especially in preparing the Lebanese Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (LBPSF). Dr. Yahshoushi noted BAU’s efforts in supervising and managing this part of the project, as well as preparing the national certificate in the field of teaching and learning. 

Dr. Al-Safi praised the results achieved in the project which is considered one of the most important projects implemented in the field, stressing the continuity of the project after the completion of the implementation period. He also noted the activities and efforts exerted by BAU, which he considered one of the most important and active universities that participated in the largest number of projects. 

BAU President Professor Amr Galal El-Adawi, represented by Professor Soubhi Abou Chahine, thanked the European Union for funding such projects and noted that “since its establishment, BAU has always sought to provide quality education and constantly strives to improve its academic and administrative services to meet international standards. In this regard, the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, as well as quality assurance units have been established at all faculties. Also, BAU has obtained international institutional accreditation as well as academic accreditation for various programs."

“The strategic objectives of teaching and learning at the university align with its mission and with the project’s main objectives through achieving excellence in education, using different teaching and learning methods, ensuring that learning outcomes are harmonized with relevant assessment methods and providing training programs for faculty members through various workshops which were organized at BAU and shall always be offered through this Center,” Prof. Abou Chahine continued.

On behalf of President El-Adawi, Abou Chahine praised the development of the Lebanese Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (LBPSF) and the Teaching-Learning Certificate Program, hoping this will be announced at all institutions of higher learning in Lebanon.

Then, Professor Abou Chahine invited the attendees to open the Center and gave details about the available equipment and activities to be carried out. The great efforts and good organization were highly praised by all.
