The Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University celebrated the graduation of its 22nd batch of medical specialists at the Beirut campus. These physicians have successfully completed their years of clinical training across various medical specialties at several university-affiliated hospitals.
The graduating class comprised thirty-four male and female physicians across 14 specialties: General Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pediatrics, Otolaryngology (ENT), Pulmonology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neonatology, and Diagnostic Radiology.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohamed Hasbini, representing the President of the Lebanese Order of Physicians Dr. Elias Chlala; President of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Bir wal-Ihsan Waqf and Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees Dr. Ammar Houry, as well as the directors of the participating hospitals, which included Hammoud Hospital University Medical Center, Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital, Rafik Hariri University Hospital, Haykel Hospital, Mazloum Hospital, and Al-Najjar Hospital. Also in attendance were the university deans, faculty members, and the families of the graduating physicians.
The ceremony commenced with an introduction by the master of ceremonies Dr. Myriam Batal, who noted in her address that today they celebrate the graduates of various residency programs who chose the path of medicine a path measured not only by the knowledge it holds, but by the humanity, patience, and responsibility it demands. She added that they have taken upon themselves a noble mission built on healing pain, instilling reassurance, and preserving human life and dignity, as they are the ones who learned to read patients' suffering before reading their medical reports, and how hope can sometimes be an essential part of treatment.
Representing the graduates, Dr. Raya Fayad delivered a speech noting that the university was not merely a place, but a space where they grew and learned how to be patient, how to dream, and how to rise again. She expressed that it was here that they shaped their years, their memories, and the best parts of themselves, adding that while they leave today as physicians, certain places never leave them because they remain within them.
Dr. Fayad added that today’s graduating class must remember that the white coat is not just a profession, but a sacred trust, and that the greatest thing they can leave in people's lives is not a prescription, but mercy, reassurance, and an unforgettable impact.
For her part, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Professor Wafaa Al-Sehly, stated that on this special day, they gather to celebrate a brilliant milestone of knowledge and success, sharing moments filled with pride in the culmination of long years of diligence and dedication. She described these as years filled with long shifts, late nights in hospital corridors, and hearts that learned to beat with mercy before practicing science as a skill and knowledge.
Professor Al-Sehly added that today they celebrate the graduates of various specialty programs who chose the path of medicine a path measured not only by the knowledge it holds, but by the humanity, patience, and responsibility it demands. She emphasized that they have taken upon themselves a noble mission based on healing pain, instilling reassurance, and safeguarding human life and dignity, as they are the ones who learned to read the pain of patients before reading their reports, and how hope can sometimes be a part of the cure.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the graduating physicians, followed by the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath.
