The Faculty of Architecture - Design and Built Environment at Beirut Arab University - Tripoli Branch organized a scientific conference entitled "Renewal and Revitalization of the Abu Ali River Course", in cooperation with Tripoli Municipality and the Order of Engineers and Architects in Tripoli and the North.
The conference was held under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Environment H.E Dr. Tamara El Zein, with the participation of the Acting Governor of Tripoli and the North Professor Iman Al-Rafei and the President of Beirut Arab University Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam.
The conference was attended by the Secretary General of the University Dr. Omar Houri, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture - Design and Built Environment Professor Hassan Abdel Salam, the Director General of the Rachid Karami International Exhibition Professor Hani El Shaarani, the Heads of the Municipalities of Tripoli and Mina, the Head of the Union of Al-Fayhaa Municipalities, the Head of the Order of Engineers, a representative of Minister Ashraf Rifi, a representative of Minister Karim Kabarra, Member of Parliament Ramez Fanaj, and a number of civil society actors.
Professor Ayman Afify, Director of the Faculty Branch, pointed to the "university's mission in harnessing academic knowledge and research capabilities to serve sustainable development and engage with societal issues."
The Head of Tripoli Municipality Dr. Abdel Hamid Karimeh, announced a "comprehensive plan that includes fixing the river facades, decorating the walls, removing violating stalls, and studying the establishment of sports areas on its surface, emphasizing the municipality's readiness to cooperate to transform the river into a developmental model."
The Head of the Order of Engineers and Architects Engineer Shawki Fatfat, spoke about the "importance of effective participation among the Order, the Municipality, and the University to find applied solutions for societal needs."
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty Professor Hassan Abdel Salam, considered the meeting "an initiative for cooperation aimed at real, participatory, and sustainable development."
The President of the University Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, affirmed the "importance of revitalizing the Abu Ali River as an artery for the city, and that the conference will work to provide a comprehensive framework that integrates sustainable urban renewal with sound environmental management."
For her part, the Minister of Environment Dr. Tamara El Zein, stressed the "importance of linking scientific research to policy making and decision-taking, noting the interest in the outputs of environmental and urban planning and the necessity of preserving the city's cultural heritage."

Urban Renewal and Flexible Design, moderated by Professor Ayman Afify with the participation of speakers.
Environmental Challenges and Solutions for the Abu Ali River, moderated by Professor Munther Hamzeh with the participation of speakers.
Architect Bassem Wadda also presented a lecture entitled: "The History of Tripoli and the River's Role in Shaping the City."
