The Scientific Committee at the Order of Engineers of Tripoli and the North pf Lebanon, in cooperation with Beirut Arab University organized a scientific conference on artificial intelligence entitled "The Rise of AI: Co-existing with Artificial Intelligence" in the presence of university presidents, school directors, professors, lecturers and educators as well as specialists in this field.
The conference started with a speech by the conference organizer and lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering at BAU Ghina Wali, where she said, "With great speed, the artificial intelligence has been making its way into our daily lives since the qualitative shift the world has witnessed in this field after the launch of chatgpt and other similar applications. It still reverberates and grows until the talk about AI started by specialists to the people in public and this topic is discussed by television channels, newspapers, social media platforms and news bulletins. It also became a trend among all people in all ages, competencies and interests. But what the future holds may be more advanced and potentially more dangerous for humanity. "
The Head of the Scientific Committee of Order of Engineers in the North, Dr. Claudia Matar Azar, then said: "Artificial intelligence is one of the most important scientific topics, and it is one of the most controversial topics on the scientific and even global level, in addition, artificial intelligence has a vital role to play in improving the human life and the progress of many sectors.”
Then, the President of the Order of Engineers in the North, Bahaa Harb, represented by the Treasurer of the Order, Dr. Mohammad Sheikh Al-Najarine, explained that "Artificial intelligence plays an essential role in the industrial revolution in terms of integrating and standardizing rules and defined its role in the engineering field through the professional planning of the industrial and developmental revolution, which is divided between objectives and educational methodology of research."
The Administrative Director of Beirut Arab University - Tripoli Branch, Dr. Hani Al-Shaarani, noted that "Artificial intelligence is not just an advanced technology, it is a tool of change that makes profound economic and engineering transformations.” He further emphasized that: “If artificial intelligence is invested and used appropriately, it will have a significant impact on the future of economies and many engineering affairs.”
The Director of the Faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University - Tripoli Branch Dr. Ahmed Al-Lakkani talked about "The importance of artificial intelligence at the local and international level. For this reason, the Faculty of Engineering and the Scientific Committee came with the initiative of this seminar to highlight this topic, which will have a profound impact on the reality of life in various fields in the coming years, that is why the United Nations classified it as one of the three most important issues at the international level."
During the conference, Dr. Mohammad Daher presented a lecture on "The history and reality of artificial intelligence in the world and the Arab world in particular."
Then Engineer Ghina Wali then moderated a panel session entitled "How to live with artificial intelligence", in which Dr. Mohammad Ayyash, Dr. Nazih Mobayed, Dr. Manal Jalloul and Engineer Khalil Al-Rai participated. The session provided clarifications on how AI applications work, their impact on everyday life, and how to benefit from AI's presence in all fields and disciplines.
In digression, Dr. Amar Mohanna delivered a lecture on the impact of artificial intelligence on learning and education, and how to improve teaching methods to align with this development.
The student from the Faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University, Aya Boukhari, also launched the workshop that will follow the conference. It aims to teach participants how to integrate artificial intelligence with their competencies.
In the same manner, Dr. Rami Khodor revealed a competition for schools to present projects, using artificial intelligence.
Finally, Dr. Anwar Homsi delivered a lecture, highlighting the impact of artificial intelligence on institutions and companies.
