Within the framework of cooperation between Beirut Arab University and the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Beirut Arab University Professor Rajaa Fakhoury, accompanied by the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department Professor Nada El Darra, visited the Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Trade Dr. Mohammad Abou Haidar, in the presence of the expert in Food Sciences Dr. Elie Bou Yazbek.
The meeting reviewed the results of a joint research between Professor Nada El Darra and Dr. Elie Bou Yazbek entitled "Adulteration Detection of Tomato Paste Specifications: A Study of the Lebanese Market." The study detected the adulteration process of the tomato paste spread in the Lebanese market and assessed its quality through examining samples of local and imported products using multiple criteria and analyzing the quality of the product to detect the presence of starch.
This research was carried out in collaboration with Professor Nicolas Luka from Saint Joseph University and Professor Esperance Debs from the University of Balamand.
This cooperation was part of the University's strategy to serve the community. The parties agreed on the importance of promoting such research and undertaking further studies related to the quality and safety of products in order to protect and preserve the health of the consumer.
