Under the theme "Connecting Communities, Anchoring Roots, Amplifying Climate Action," the BAU Media Center organized the World Radio Day celebration on February 13th. The event was attended by Dr. Nasser Yassin, former Minister of Environment; Dr. Ammar Houri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Albir wal Ihsan and President of the University’s Board of Trustees; Professor Wael Nabil Abdelsalam, University President; along with a group of faculty members, administrative staff, media professionals, journalists, and trainers at the center. This celebration was held in response to UNESCO's call to use this international day as a platform to shed light on climate change.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Nour Obeidi from the Faculty of Human Sciences and Riyad Jawhar from the Faculty of Dentistry, who highlighted the role of radio in conveying messages about climate challenges.
Ms. Abeer Ghazal, Director of the Media Center, emphasized the importance of the role of radio that remains vital with the evolving digital age.
Professor Abdelsalam, stressed the significance of radio in fostering dialogue among nations, as well as the challenges radio faces in our world.
Then, Dr. Houri provided remarks on the fundamental mission of radio and media: to uphold truth and justice. He also extended his appreciation to Lebanese and Arab media professionals for their dedication in reporting the harsh realities we all experience.
Dr. Yassin reflected on his tenure as Minister of Environment, emphasizing the efforts made to raise awareness about climate change. He also emphasized the role of radio in addressing such a pressing issue, particularly in our region. He praised BAU’s role as a source of knowledge and social progress.
The event continued with a live radio broadcast about the history of radio history, presented by actor and artist Wissam Sabbagh in his iconic role as “Abu Chafic”. The celebration also included interactive games for students, and engaging interviews conducted in the podcast studio.
