Abstract
Objective: This study examines resilience in three samples: Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian in Lebanon. Resilience is one of the prominent concepts in positive psychology, as well as developmental psychology, mental health and personality. It is defined as the ability to face stressful events, and to achieve successful adjustment. In recent years, the Lebanese society witnessed obvious changes. The Syrians moved to Lebanon, fleeing the events raging through Syria; in addition, there are the camps of Palestinian refugees. Methods: The samples of the study consisted of 371 individuals: Palestinians (n=125), Syrians (n=124), and Lebanese (n=122). Their ages ranged from 25 to 40 years. In small groups, they responded to the Resilience Scale developed by Connor and Davidson, translated by the researchers. The scale enjoys a test-retest reliability and internal consistency, as well as a criterion-related validity. Results: The findings of the study show that the Palestinian sample obtained the highest mean score on resilience, whereas the Syrians scored the lowest mean. The Lebanese sample falls in-between. Conclusion: It is suggested that a study of resilience be conducted on other samples in other Arab countries that are characterized by social, political and economic stability, in order to compare the results of this study with them.
Keywords: Resilience, Lebanese, Syrian Refugees, Palestinians in Lebanon.
