Startup Weekend Mount Lebanon

Center for Entrepreneurship at Beirut Arab University organized Mount Lebanon Startup Weekend at the BAU Campus in Debbieh, on 16,17,18 November 2012, where more than 130 participants consisting of students from a number of schools and universities participated as idea pitchers, developers, business models and designers, to form teams, compete and present their ideas and projects.

The winning projects were chosen by the judges which was formed by a committee of experts. The project to win first place was QRspace awarded by Municipality of Beirut for 5,000$. It is an application that enables the user to scan the barcode on merchandise and identify it through its QR. The second place was won by the project Pickaside who was awarded by Malia Group for 3,500$. It is a statistical and research application that compares the merits of two competing merchandise, enabling the user to select the better of the two.

The third place was won by the project Portable Nurse awarded by MedBank for 2,000$. It is a watch worn on the user’s wrist. It automatically contacts the nearest hospital and relatives of the user, as well as an ambulance, when the user suffers any accident.
