Highway Preventive Congestion Control Through Input Regulation in Vehicular Networks
Abstract
In this paper, we developed some insights into the design of a preventive congestion control applied in vehicular network. The proposed mechanism, implemented at the highway entrances, regulates input traffic and performs vehicular traffic shaping. Our congestion control mechanism deals with different classes of vehicles and is based on a specific priority ticket pool scheme with queue-length threshold scheduling policy, tailored to vehicular networks. Mathematical model based on the embedded Markov chain method shows the benefits of the proposed scheme and highlights the impact of the system parameters on the overall performance. Our technique meets drivers expectations as they will experience bounded performance parameters and limited burst vehicular traffic size.
