Course Description

This course aims to develop student teachers Disciplinary Literacy skills in science for elementary education, build a strong foundation in scientific concepts for children and in using these concepts effectively in their real daily life situations. They will be trained in how to use specialized scientific knowledge and abilities to develop children’s disciplinary habits of mind in reading, writing, thinking and communicating. They will investigate how to apply Inquiry-based learning principles and emphasize children’s process of asking questions, making observations, forming hypotheses, conducting experiments, interpreting data, charts, models, and illustrations, drawing conclusions through age-appropriate scientific investigations to think like scientists in topics concerning Life Sciences, Earth and Space Science, Physical Sciences, and Engineering and Technology.
