Course Description

This course is about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics education. It emphasizes an integrated approach to learning. It aims at equipping student teachers with methods to encourage children to explore, question, and experiment, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills from an early age. The course provides student teachers with a comprehensive understanding of the STEAM educational framework as it applies to elementary education. They will explore the integration of these disciplines; it involves an overview of STEAM education, its importance, and how it differs from traditional education models, the strategies for integrating STEAM subjects into existing elementary curricula. Student teachers will explore utilizing arts and creativity within the STEAM framework to motivate children’s, project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage experimentation and collaboration among them to create engagement and expression in learning. Through hands-on activities, student teachers will understand how to assess student learning in STEAM subjects, focusing on formative assessments that capture student growth and understanding.
