Course Description

This course examines the principal trends in modern and contemporary literary criticism, including Russian Formalism, Prague Structuralism, New Criticism, Leavisian Criticism, Marxist and Neo-Marxist Criticism, Post-structuralist thought, Deconstruction, and Feminism. Readings may include Jan Mukarovsky, I. A. Richards, Cleanth Brooks, F.R. Leavis, Christopher Caudwell, Walter Benjamin, Terry Eagleton, Frederic Jameson, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Elaine Showalter, Helene Cixous and others.
