Course Description
The course deals with language structure, language acquisition, and the application of modern linguistics to applied areas in general. It introduces language models and the approaches that stem from them for ELT purposes and the methods that are currently in use. It focuses on recent trends and research in teaching reading and writing to foreign language learners, ESP, needs analysis, contrastive and error analysis, interlanguage, syllabus design, and material development, testing and evaluation. Language use is presented in the context of Discourse Analysis and the cultural influences that affect use, as the overall aim of language teaching is to enable learners to use language functionally.
