Ghassan Younes received his BSc and MSc in Chemistry and he completed his PhD in materials chemistry from Claude Bernard University (UCBL), Lyon, France in 1995. He joined Beirut Arab University (BAU) in 1997, where he is currently Dean of the Faculty of Science since 1/9/2023. He was a Teaching Assistant at UCBL1-France before joining BAU as an Assistant Professor in 1997. Since then, He has held several key positions at BAU including being Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science (2012-2018), Acting Dean (2014), Head of Chemistry Department (2011-2012 and 2019), Member of the University Strategic Committee, Head of Committee for the Curricula Modernization of all Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit, Representing BAU as a Member of the Inter-University Cooperation Committee of the Association of Universities in Lebanon, Representing BAU as a Member of Specialized technical committee (Ministry of Education and Higher Education) for the examination of new Programs at some Lebanese Universities, Representing BAU in Tempus Project Funded by the European Community on International Relations and so on. His Research Interests are mainly focused on the Growth and Characterization of Semiconductor Materials, Corrosion Analysis and Protection, Green Synthesis of Nanoparticles and their Applications, Water Treatment and Analysis, Ab-initio Calculations and Spectroscopic Studies. He currently has several MSc and PhD Students under Supervision and he is the author of more than 100 scientific publications including peer-reviewed articles and conference papers. He participated in many research projects and He awarded the best scientific project during the conference organized by “Programme CEDRE”. He entertains several collaborations with BAU Academic Staff, the Lebanese Universities, Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC) and LMI at UCBL-France.

I taught the following undergraduate and graduate courses for several times through the period between 1998 – Present:

 

Undergraduate: Principles of Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Kinetics, Water Analysis, Nuclear and Radiochemistry, General Chemistry for Biology, Health Science, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Engineering Students, Physical and Analytical Chemistry for Biology Students.

1. Member in a research project supported by “Programme CEDRE” between Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (CLEA-CNRS) (Lebanon) and CNRS-Strasbourg (France). Title of the project : Performance et validation des méthodes d'analyse nucléaires auprès de l'accélérateur de particules du CLEA dans le domaine des détecteurs nucléaires à semi-conducteurs. (2001-2006)

2. Principal Member in a research project supported by “Programme CEDRE” between Beirut Arab University, CLEA-CNRS (Lebanon) and LMI- Université Claude Bernard-Lyon1 (France), Title of the project : Développement des techniques d’analyse par faisceaux d’ions accélérés pour la détermination de dopants légers (Al, B, P et N) dans des couches minces de SiC. (2005-2007)
