Ground Water Assessment in Sour Area for Drinking Quality
Abstract
"A detailed physical, chemical and biological analysis of underground water
samples was carried out in different sites among Sour area. Many parameters
including pH, turbidity, conductivity, total dissolved solids, calcium,
magnesium, total hardness, chloride, acidity, alkalinity, ammonia, nitrite,
orthophosphate, sulfate, iron, nitrate, total coliform and E. coli were detected.
The obtained values of each parameter were compared to local Libnor
Standards to classify whether it is suitable for drinking purpose or not.
Overall, the water from all the locations was found to be not safe as drinking
water due to presence of bacteria where total coliform exceeded 70 CFU/100
ml and E. coli was above 10 CFU/100ml for most samples. Physical and
chemical characteristics varied in between locations and seasons. Further
experimental work was carried out on outflow water samples in homes, water
shops and plants after treatment of inflow water samples from either
groundwater or surface water (spring origin) sources to evaluate the changes
and method used."
