The Relationship of Emotional Intelligence Components to Career Commitment and Turnover Intention in Lebanon Banks’

Abstract

This research investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence components to career commitment and turnover intention. It tested the hypotheses regarding the relationship of emotional intelligence's components: self-emotion appraisal, others' emotion appraisal, regulation of emotions, use of emotion to career commitment and turnover intention of 273 senior managers and head of departments in Lebanese banks. The findings show that there is a positive and significant relation between self-emotion appraisal, others' emotion appraisal, regulation of emotions, use of emotion and career commitment, whereas, there is negative and significant relation between self-emotion appraisal, others' emotion appraisal, regulation of emotions, use of emotion and turnover intention. The results show that self-emotional appraisal is the most important predictor of career commitment and turnover intention followed by other's emotional appraisal, regulation of emotions and use of emotions respectively and thus all emotional intelligence components are important with each has more effect on career commitment and turnover intention more than the other.Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Career Commitment, Turnover Intention, Lebanese banks
