Mohammad El-Dakdouki
Head of Chemistry Department
Dr. Mohammad H. El-Dakdouki completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the Lebanese University in June 2001. He then joined the Chemistry MS program at the American University of Beirut in September 2002 where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Makhlouf J. Haddadin, the co-inventor of the internationally acknowledged Beirut Reaction and the Davis-Beirut Reaction. During his MS thesis, Dr. El-Dakdouki worked on the development of the Davis-Beirut Reaction that led to the synthesis of novel heterocyclic compounds. He successfully completed the MS degree in Organic Chemistry in June 2004. Dr. El-Dakdouki joined the PhD program in the College of Pharmacy at The University of Toledo (USA) where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Paul W. Erhardt, the inventor of the commercial drug Esmolol. Dr. El-Dakdouki worked on the development of anticancer drugs with reduced multidrug resistance liability. He graduated with a PhD degree in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry in December 2009. Dr. El-Dakdouki joined Prof. Xuefei Huang group at Michigan State University (USA) as a postdoctoral fellow from September 2009 till August 2011, and as a Research Assistant Professor from September 2011 till August 2012. During his stay at Michigan State University, Dr. El-Dakdouki utilized nanotechnology, organic synthesis, molecular imaging, and biological assessment for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer, and atherosclerosis. Dr. El-Dakdouki joined Beirut Arab University as Assistant Professor of Organic and Biological Chemistry in September 2012, and was promoted to Associate Professor in August 2015. Dr. El-Dakdouki published more than 60 peer reviewed articles and book chapters, and acts as reviewer for several high impact international journals.
