Dr. Issam Shaarani

Assistant Professor of Family Medicine

Dr. Issam Shaarani is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and the Medical Director of Beirut Arab University Healthcare Center (BAUHC). Dr. Shaarani received his medical degree from Beirut Arab University. He specialized in Family Medicine at the American University of Beirut before obtaining the Arab Board of  Family Medicine.

 

Dr. Shaarani has been  involved in many public health projects at the national level, related to  integrated health planning, gender-based violence and health care provision to underprivileged population, and he currently chairs the Ethics Working Party of the World Organization of Family Doctors – WONCA.

In his clinical practice, he emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care, and has a special interest in mental health and care of the elderly population.

He teaches evidence-based medicine and Family Medicine for the undergraduate medical students. His main research interests are physician-patient interaction, social determinants of health, e-professionalism, and refugees’ health, where he has many ongoing research projects.
