Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry


Dr. Sherine Badr received her Bachelor Degree in Oral Medicine and Dental Surgery from the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt in 1997. She pursued her master’s degree in the field of Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry & Preventive Dentistry in 2003 from the same university. Dr. Badr then completed her studies in Pediatric Dentistry and obtained her PhD in 2008 also from Cairo University. She further develops her skills as an educator through achieving Diploma in Medical Education (through E- learning) from the Faculty of Medicine - Suez Canal University, Egypt in 2011. Believing in continuous professional development her studies extend to join University Leadership and Management Training program at The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, Germany. This program enhanced her skills in Project Management, Financial Resource Management and Human Resource Management in Higher Educational Institutions. On 2013 Dr. Badr earned her Associate Professor title from Cairo University, Egypt.

Dr. Badr worked as Executive Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Unit, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt from 2009 – 2012. During that period she was a member in several committees in Cairo University as the Educational Committee, the Community Service and Environment Development Committee, the Managing Team of the General Anaesthesia Unit for Paediatric Dentistry and Children with Special Needs and Staff Development Committee. Dr. Badr held the position of the Head of Paediatric Dentistry department, Future University, Egypt 2010-2012. Since 2012 Dr. Badr joined Beirut Arab University (BAU) where she had the opportunity to be the Director of the Paediatric Dentistry Division, Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Unit, Coordinator of the Inter - Professional Education (IPE), Coordinator of the Curriculum Committee, Coordinator of the advisory Committee at the Faculty of Dentistry, BAU as well as Member in Institutional Quality Assurance & Accreditation center on a university level. Moreover, Dr. Badr is a member in different societies and associations as the Egyptian Society for Paediatric Dentistry & Children with Special Needs (EDPSN), Member of International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD), and Member in the International Association of Dental Research (IADR).

Teaching

Teaching Experience

Dr. Badr started her working and teaching experience as a resident in Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt for 3 years starting from 1999, then as an assistant lecturer from 2003 to 2008 and as a lecturer from 2008 - 2012 in the same institution. Later she got her title as associate professor in 2013. Her diploma in medical education enriched her professional teaching skills as an educator, backed with her clinical working experience in treating children under Local and general anesthesia, together with the training she received in management of higher education from Germany. Thus she was able to take over several leading positions in the field of dental education as the Head of Paediatric Dentistry department, Future University, Egypt from 2010-2012 fully responsible for delivery of six courses (Pediatric dentistry, Preventive dentistry, Community and public health, Report writing, Ethics, Forensic course). Since 2012 Dr. Badr joined BAU as the Director of the Paediatric and Community Dentistry Division responsible for the delivery of four paediatric courses, public health and interprofessional education (IPE) course. Dr. Badr also supervises the delivery of several courses as Behavioural Sciences, Research and Evidence Based Dentistry, Ethics and Professionalism in Dentistry, Practice Management. Dr. Badr is keen always to apply the advanced modalities in education as Problem Based learning (PBL), team based learning (TBL), flip classes, experiential learning and IPE also assessment of clinical skills are always following rubrics after training the students on self and peer assessment. Students are encouraged to maintain their portfolios to be responsible of their own learning process. Dr. Badr help her students to develop the 21st century competencies as critical thinking, problem solving, web searching as well as being a life-long and self-learners.
