Dr. Marwan Halabi is an Associate Professor and the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Built Environment at Beirut Arab University. He has Joined BAU as an Assistant Professor in 2014, and appointed as Assistant Dean since 2016. He achieved his PhD degree in Architecture and Technology in 2008 from the Superior School of Architecture of Barcelona, with the thesis under the title “The beginnings of CAM Technology in Architecture: The Sagrada Família”. He has been teaching a diverse number of architectural courses related to advanced computer design and digital fabrication in Spain since 2004. He has also worked as a consultant for a series of projects in Spain such as the Sagrada Família from Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona and the H2O Pavilion from Zaha Hadid in Zaragoza, Spain. Dr. Halabi is also the founder of Design, Engineering and Property Consulting, a practice which carries out architectural design projects at the consultancy level in addition to design competitions.

Teaching

Before joining BAU, Dr Marwan Halabi taught Architecture at the both undergraduate and Postgraduate levels at the UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia), ESARQ – UIC (Superior School of Architecture of Barcelona – International University of Catalonia), ELISAVA – Barcelona, and LAU (Lebanese American University). At BAU, he taught Building Construction I, Architectural Design 2, Architectural Design 3, Architectural Design 4, Advanced Design Studio 1 (M.Arch), Advanced Design Studio 2 (M.Arch), Building Construction 3, Building Construction 4, Vernacular Architecture, Topics in Architecture: Contemporary Trends, Digital Modeling, and Parametric Design & Digital Fabrication.

Research

Research Interests:

Research interests are focused on the field of technology applied to architectural design and construction, focusing mainly on the latest trends of advanced design and fabrication using automated means. Parametric design, rapid prototyping, and robotic fabrication applied both at educational and professional levels are some of the current fields of research.
