Assistant Professor in Architecture


Chadi El Khoury is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Architecture – Design and Built Environment, Beirut Arab University since 2016. He studied architecture in Beirut and Rome. He graduated from “Sapienza” University of Rome with supervisor Laura De Carlo. In 2006 he began practice as a professional designer. In 2015 he received his Ph.D. in architectural design from “Sapienza” University of Rome with supervisor Antonino Saggio with the thesis: “Folding”. A morpho-semantic model to support the creative phase of the project. He began his teaching experience as an assistant to undergraduate courses at “Sapienza” University of Rome Faculty of Architecture while continuing the practice of the profession of designer. His professional interests include using varied architectural subjects such as architectural design, parametric architecture, and digital fabrication.

 

 

Teaching

Before joining the full-time academic staff at BAU, Dr. El Khoury began his teaching experience as an assistant to undergraduate courses at La Sapienza University of Rome Faculty of Architecture Corso di Progettazione Architettonica Assistita ITCAAD2013-15 - Architectural Design Course with reviews of students’ projects. Since 2016, he has taught different courses at the faculty of Architecture – Design and Built Environment: Parametric Design & Digital Fabrication, Architectural Design, Execution Design, Graduation Thesis, Interior Execution Design and Detailing.

Research

Research Interests:

His research focuses on the relations between Information Technology and Architecture such as parametric design, generative modeling, and digital fabrication. This is necessary to incubate advanced thinking methodologies regarding new technology systems to assist with cognitive architectural design complexity.

Activities

Activities:

Chadi El Khoury is the coordinator of the Independent Learning Club (ILC) in the Faculty of Architecture – Design & Built Environment. This Club is created for the students who want to affront the big thematic of the relationship between Information Technology and Architecture by technical, instructive and cultural nature. The (ILC) offer courses and tutorials to aware and enhance students to deal with parametric design and BIM software; that can be developed and focused on sustainable design or CAD/CAM technologies. In addition, our studies investigate the architectural potentials of robotic fabrication in wood construction. Thanks to the automated cutting machines and techniques that we include in our studies, it is now possible to create wooden structures with complex shapes and with moderate costs.
