Women’s League Awareness Campaign for the Prevention of Breast Cancer
In the occasion of the International Month for Breast Cancer, Beirut
Arab University Women’s League hosted Dr. Fadi Farhat, the Head of
Hematology and Oncology Department at Hammoud University Hospital to
give a lecture on the importance of early detection of breast cancer on
the 27 of October 2011 at Ali Rached Hall in Beirut campus.
Dr. Farhat talked about cancer and the factors that contribute to an
increased risk of attacking with age, hereditary factors, smoking and
overweight, and not breast-feeding or child bearing. He also pointed at
the symptoms that women feel and thus the importance of self-examination
once per month and an X-ray once per year or after the age of 40 since
early detection of breast cancer reduces its risks and raises the
healing chances.
This campaign is part of a bigger awareness campaign that the Ministry
of Health participates in. It aims at preserving women’s health
especially that the rate of patients have been increasing in Lebanon
every year.
