Arab University celebrated the launching of its new campus in Tripoli in
a press conference held within its premises on the 24th of June 2010
attended by the Secretary General Mr. Issam Houri, BAU directors and
administrators, President of BAU Alumni in Tripoli, and many mass media
representatives.
President El Adawi announced that the Faculties of Engineering,
Architectural Engineering, Science, Commerce and Business Administration
and Health Sciences will commence their classes for the academic year
2010/2011 in Tripoli on the 20th September 2010. It is expected that 700
students will be enrolled in the university in Tripoli campus with the
beginning of the new academic year.
Professor El Adawi stated that this campus consists of a terrace, a
building for the administration, four other buildings each of which
consists of an underground floor, a ground floor and three upper floors
designated for the faculties, in addition to a central library, 15 halls
used as classrooms and special places for the 39 laboratories 11 of
which are already equipped. He hoped that the next step in the future
will be the launching of the Maritime Studies and Shipping Department
which is linked to the Faculty of Science by an underground tunnel and
is allocated to the Maritime Property facing the campus. The president
also mentioned that in the next few years the university will try to
establish new Faculties in this campus and to get official licenses from
the Lebanese Government in this respect.
President El Adawi also affirmed that the high standards of both the
academic and administrative guidelines were taken into consideration
especially that all of the staff members are BAU graduates and Tripoli
residents bearing in mind that some were selected from the other
northern regions according to their qualifications and expertise.
Moreover, Professor El Adawi stated that Beirut Arab University got the
absolute endorsement of the Lebanese governmental and non-governmental
organizations and institutions, and of the University of Alexandria in
Egypt. He mentioned that some contributions were made by Ex-Prime
Minister Najib Mikati and Minister Mohamad Safadi whom he thanked on the
behalf of Beirut Arab University.
Regarding the expansion plan scheduled for the university, he stated
that Beirut Arab University intends to establish a new campus in Bekaa
and that the university has actually accomplished the first step via the
purchase of a piece of land with an area of 185,000 m2 where BAU campus
is to be established.
At the end of the press conference, President El Adawi and the attendees
had a tour on the various sections of the finished buildings during
which he clarified the different phases of construction that will
proceed in the near future.
