RAAFAT ELSAYED SHAKER ISMAIL

Raafat Ismail received his Ph.D. in 1995 from the Osaka University, Japan and M.S. in Structural Engineering in 1989 from the Alexandria University, Egypt. He obtained his B.S. in Structural Engineering in 1989 from the Alexandria University, Egypt in 1982. He is Associate Professor in the faculty of Engineering at Beirut Arab University from 2011-till now, on leave from Alexandria University, Egypt. He was Associate Professor at Alexandria University, Egypt from 2001 to 2011. He was Assistant Professor at Alexandria University, Egypt from 1995 to 2001.

Teaching

Research

Research Interests:
My research interests are in the areas of analysis and structure mechanics. I work on inelastic nonlinear Finite Element analysis of various types of structures under static cyclic and/or dynamic loads. The considered structures are steel plates, steel bridge piers, concrete slab-steel beam composite structures, steel beam-column member, steel tubular bracing members and steel beam-column joints. In addition, I work on the computational methods for simulating hydroelastic responses of Floating structures (floating airport and floating bridges) in which Finite Elements and Boundary Elements Methods are coupled to account for fluid-structure interaction.
