2. Calculating
Grades for Repeated Courses
-
Calculating GPA, SGPA & CGPA:
Each course that is based on the credit hour system
is evaluated at the end of each semester for final grading. This grading
is indicated on the students' transcript via a Letter grade.
- Calculating the GPA:
(Grade Point Average)
The
Grade Point Average is a numerical method that evaluates the student
academically in the relevant course using a grade average. Each letter
grade is allocated a Grade Point Average; where the Grade Point is the
course Grade Point Average multiplied by the number of Credit hours
required for the relevant course.
Therefore, to determine the
Course Grade Point:
Grade Point = GPA x Number of the Course Credit hours
For example,
Grade Point = 2.33 x 3 = 6.99
Calculating the SGPA: (Semester Grade Point Average)
TheSemester Grade
Point Average for courses is calculated by dividing the Grade Point
total by the total number of credit hours earned for all courses taken
within the one semester. Courses with a final grade of "F" are included
in the Grade Point total.
For Example,
SGPA = (summation of GPA of all courses
in a semester) / Total number of registered credit hours per semester
- Calculating the CGPA:
(Cumulative Grade Point Average)
TheCumulative Grade
Point Average clarifies the assessment of all courses taken throughout
the entire study period. The CGPA is derived by dividing the total Grade
Points (for all completed courses) by the total number of credit hours
taken.
For Example,
CGPA = (Summation of GPA of all courses in all semesters)
/ (Total number of registered credit hours )
Calculating Grades
for Repeated Courses:
Students may repeat any
failed course(s) and /or repeat any passed course(s) to improve their
GPA and/or substitute any elective course(s) with other course(s). The
grade calculation for the repeated courses is as follows:
Reason(s) for Repeat
Grades Applied
Failed course(s)
The new grade obtained is applied unchanged.
Grade
Enhancement
The
higher grade of the two is applied.
Substituted Elective Course(s)
The
higher grade of the two is applied.
Passing students are
entitled to a maximum of 2 repeats per course, if the reason for repeat
is to enhance the grade and to increase the CGPA.
