Biography

Nour El Ghouch is a M.Sc. student at Beirut Arab University since 2015.  Started working as a teaching assistant at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science. Her research is under the supervision of Dr. Rami Oweini (Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry) is focusing on the classical type POMs, both Keggin and Wells-Dawson, and is aimed at comparing and discussing the resulting spectrophotometric data arising from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis), Raman spectroscopy (Raman). Consequently, the study at hand will enable a better understanding of their fascinating properties, and thereof their reactivity and uniqueness to be applied in various uses and applications.

Research

Title of Thesis:

Polyoxometalate Nanostructures: A Comparative Spectrophotometric Study

Objectives:

Synthesis of POMs, both Keggin and Wells-Dawson types, of different addenda (M= WVI, MoVI, TaV, NbV, VV) and hetero (X= SiIV, GeIV, PV, AsIII/V, SbIII, BiIII, etc.) atoms.
Spectrophotometric characterization and studies of the prepared POMs:

1. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

2. Ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis)

3. Raman spectroscopy (Raman)

4. Powder x-ray diffraction (pXRD)

Comparing the results of the study according to different classes of addenda atoms, heteroatoms, substitution and types, and saturated versus lacunary.

Comparing our comprehensive results with those reported in the literature and drawing important conclusions concerning their properties and uniqueness towards their various interesting applications

Activities

1. Participated via a poster presentation about my research work in the 22nd International Conference (LAAS) that was held on 14-15 April 2016 at USEK.

2. Participated in the “Science Days” event that was held on 9-11 October 2016 at Horsh Beirut.

3. Participated in the “Open Doors” event that was held on 17 March 2016 at BAU Debbieh Campus. This event played a crucial role in representing and introducing all the majors and the corresponding curricula offered at BAU. Students from various schools were invited to this event, and all were taken by a tour inside the campus.
