“The
Role of the Judge in Litigation: Unity of Purpose and the Multiplicity
of Roles”
Under the Patronage and in the presence of Prof.
Ibrahim Najjar, Minister of Justice, the Faculty of Law and Political
Sciences organized a conference entitled “The Role of the Judge in
Litigation: Unity of Purpose and Multiplicity of Roles”.
The conference was held on the 5th and 6th February 2010 and the opening
ceremony was attended by Minister Khaled Kabbani, Mr. Ibrahim Halawi, MP
Mr. Tammam Salam, Major Salim Abdo representing the Director-General of
Internal Security Forces Major General Ashraf Rifi, Judge Ghaleb Ghanem,
President of the Prime Supreme Judicial Council, Mr. Choucri Sader,
President of the State Council, Mr. Abdel Rahman El Solh, Assistant of
the Arab League Secretary General, Mr. Ahmad El-Simnawi representing the
Egyptian Ambassador in Lebanon, representatives from the various
Lebanese Universities, Mr. Toufic Houri, Head of Board of Trustees of
Wakf El Bir and Al Ihsan, Prof. Amr Galal El-Adawi, President of Beirut
Arab University, Mr. Issam Houri, Secretary General of Beirut Arab
University, deans and administrators from Beirut Arab University.
In his opening speech, Minister Najjar expressed his deep and sincere
gratitude and pride of the founders of Beirut Arab University for
serving the society via the establishment of the Faculty of Law and
Political Sciences which has graduated many significant figures in
Lebanon and the Arab World. He also focused on the importance of holding
such a conference on the general principals and the positive role the
judge plays to prevent the manipulation of society and procure its
safety.
Prof. El-Adawi referred to this conference as one of the many
festivities Beirut Arab University is holding as it is celebrating its
golden jubilee and as the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences is one
of the faculties that witnessed the fifty years of the outstanding
education.
In her speech, Prof. Hafiza Haddad, Dean of Faculty of Law and Political
Sciences emphasized the important and the crucial role of law in all
respects. She also announced that several workshops will follow later
on.
