Main Features of the MBBCh Curriculum

The Faculty of Medicine at Beirut Arab University is pursuing higher quality in education, its programme follows the framework provided by the Basic Medical Education Global Standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) for Quality Improvement, 2015. The programme is of six years duration and have around 23-33 structured contact hours per week. The treatment of academic faculty and students is ensured to be irrespective of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status; it also provides all possible facilities to disabled persons.

The curriculum is delivered in different settings that provide wide experience in simulation, hospital, and community based contexts. Core competencies essential for good medical practice guide the curriculum structure, organization, learning and teaching approaches, student assessment and programme evaluation. The organization of the curriculum allows maximum degree of horizontal integration across themes and vertical spiral integration within themes. The professional development longitudinal theme provides students with ethics, behavior, and culture needed for medical graduate.

The learning environment is structured to allow more flexibility and choice in time, place and style of learning. Research based education starts as early as the first semester by introducing students to the importance and concept of medical research. The curriculum promotes a culture that recognizes teamwork, scientific enquiry and lifelong learning as essential elements in the effective learning and practice of medicine.

The Faculty is committed to help students pursuing their academic and life goals by promoting an environment that fosters academic success and professional development. Our program encourages self-learning and continuous education through a student centered integrated strategy.

We believe that future doctor should possess the ability to think critically and creatively; medical graduate doesn’t simply need to recall facts but instead he needs to access, evaluate and use new information.

The Faculty offers students the chance to be involved in a variety of activities throughout the programme, by investing their free times in practicing in many social, cultural, athletic, and scientific activities.

The different activities provided to our students, help them developing teamwork, building experience of event planning that enable them to become leaders in their own field, and feeling more satisfied with their college experience.
