The Pharmacy profession is considered to be one of the humanitarian professions that is strongly related to the health of the individual and the prosperity of the community. The Faculty of Pharmacy at Beirut Arab University is committed to prepare pharmacists who are capable of competing, serving the community and effectively participating in the advancement of the therapeutic system.
The graduates of the faculty of pharmacy at Beirut Arab University are spread all over Lebanon, Arab countries and different countries in several continents and have unequivocally gained the trust of the communities in which they work.
The faculty of pharmacy provides the learners, in the Bachelor degree, with a distinctive academic program that is balanced by its sciences related to the profession of pharmacy. The program ensures the uttermost benefit that is accomplished in the frame of Code of Ethics.
The program encompasses advanced courses in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology and Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants, in addition to other courses related to Clinical Pharmacy, Community and Hospital Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Quality Control, Drug Design, and Marketing and Economics of drugs.
To accompany the unremitting evolvement, the faculty is undergoing a incessant updating and advancement to its programs and curricula in order to add the latest achievements that have been reached in the understanding of the profession and its sciences.
The faculty is also granting PhD and Master Degrees to postgraduate students in the different specialties in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
In carrying out its mission, the faculty relies on a distinguished and expert academic staff and on highly equipped laboratories and research capabilities.

History of the Faculty
Faculty of Pharmacy at Beirut Arab University was
established in 1985, in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The undergraduate program at the Faculty of Pharmacy
started and progressed to include seven academic departments: Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics
and Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Quality Control,
Medicinal Chemistry, and Pharmacognosy and Medicinal plants.
The faculty has observed considerable
growth in number of its students that increased from a total of 115 in 1986 to a total of 444 in 2008.
In
2002, the faculty expanded its curriculum to incorporate postgraduate programs including Master and PhD Degrees,
in addition to a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and Doctorate in Clinical Pharmacy (Pharm. D).
Since its
establishment, the faculty has adopted the extended academic year system, then in 1999, it moved to the two
academic terms scheme. More recently, in 2002, the faculty updated its programs and adopted the Credit Hour
system. The curriculum of this new system prepares the students for careers in clinical pharmacy and promotes
interaction between pharmacists and other health professionals.
The faculty established
a "Pharmaceutical Continuing Education Program". This program organizes short courses, seminars
and presentations in the various Pharmaceutical fields offering graduates and community a venue
for maintaining up-to-date knowledge.
The Faculty offers a Bachelor Degree (BSc.) in Pharmaceutical Sciences where
the standard duration of study is ten semesters. The degree requirements consist
of a total 178 Credit Hours.
Furthermore and as a graduation requirement, all students must successfully
complete a 12 months training program under the supervision of academic staff
members nominated by the faculty board in accordance with a professional
training program offered by the faculty. This training is divided over 4 summer
semesters and starts at the end of the first year of study.
To be accepted for an undergraduate degree, applicants must:
• hold the official Lebanese Secondary School Certificate in a branch relevant
to the chosen undergraduate field of specialization, or an official equivalent;
• pass an admission examination in: English Language – Biology – Physics &
Chemistry.
Diploma in Biochemical Analysis and Hospital Pharmacy
The degree requirements consist of a total of 30 Credit Hours.
Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
The degree requirement consists of a total of 30 Credit Hours.
Doctor in Clinical Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
The Doctor of Pharmacy Degree consists of a total of 38 Credit Hours.
The 1st & 2nd semesters involve course work and the 3rd & 4th involve clinical
training in an accredited hospital.
Master Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
The Master Degree Program consists of a total of 36 Credit Hours.
All specialized Elective Courses are selected in accordance with the field of
specialization.
Thesis registration starts at the beginning of the 3rd semester.
PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences
The PhD Program consists of a total of 40 Credit Hours.
All specialized Elective Courses are selected in accordance with the field of
specialization.
1. Applicants for any of the postgraduate diplomas must hold a Bachelor
Degree obtained from BAU or any other recognized university.
2. Applicants for the Master Degree must hold a Bachelor Degree obtained from
Beirut Arab University or any recognized university with a minimum CGPA grade of
“C”; or a Specialized Graduate Diploma with a minimum CGPA grade of “C” or its
equivalent.
3. Applicants for the PhD Degree must hold a Master degree from Beirut Arab
University or any other recognized university that qualifies him/her to pursue
their PhD.
Master & PhD students should pass the TOEFL exam with at least an average of
500, or IELTS, or its equivalent in other languages before registering for the
thesis.
The diversity of pharmacy domains is one of its chief strengths. And, in
diversity lies your opportunity. In Lebanon, the vast majority of pharmacists
practice in community, pharmaceutical industries or hospital pharmacies. The
remainders follow one or another of the special fields you have just reviewed.
The opportunity for success in any of these fields is wide open for men and
women with ability, education, and imagination.
