The Department of Arabic Language and Literature is one of the oldest and most important departments in the faculty.  It has produced a very large number of graduates so far who have obtained prestigious positions in society in the field of teaching.  It has also offered a number of MA and PhD degrees.

Within the framework of the university strategy as well as the faculty strategy, the department has implemented the Credit Hour System.  This has led to connecting the department with other departments in the faculty as well as the whole university as Arabic has become an obligatory university core course for all the students of the university.  This system has also led to the connection between the students and Arabic heritage in both literature and language, the promotion of Arab intellectual contributions in different fields, especially sciences and literature, and highlighting the influence of Arabic on other languages.  As such, the department plays an effective role in propagating Arab cultural union.

As far as methodology and research are concerned, the department works on formulating scientific and academic methods of textual analysis in language and literature.  It also enhances training in the fields of teaching Arabic, dictionary compilation and analysis, translation into Arabic and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.
