Department of Oral Surgical Sciences

The department comprises three divisions: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontology and Implantology. The department provides the students with the scientific basis of periodontal care; and its relationship to other dental disciplines, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with various periodontal diseases involving multidisciplinary approaches and integrated treatment, techniques for placement and restoration of dental implants in different clinical situations; aesthetics and contemporary surgical methods.

Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Director, Asst. Prof. Mohamed Shokry
The oral and maxillofacial surgery courses develop theoretical and practical skills necessary for the general practioner, to successfully administer local anesthesia, perform simple and complicated extractions, surgical removal of remaining roots and impacted teeth, preprosthetic surgeries, management of jaw cysts, tumors, odontogenic infection and maxillary sinus diseases of odontogenic origin. Students are also provided with basic knowledge about facial pain and TMJ diseases as well as diseases of salivary glands and general idea about reconstruction techniques, alveolar clefts, cleft lip and palate and orthognasic surgery and stages of soft and hard tissue wounds healing.
Division of Periodontology
Director, Prof. Nahed Attia
The division of periodontics both theoretical and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and management of diseases of the periodontium. The goal is to provide the undergraduate student with a strong educational foundation in periodontology for their future careers in dentistry and to contribute new knowledge through basic and clinical knowledge in periodontics. Furthermore, surgical and non- surgical periodontal treatments, are carried out.
Division of Implantology
Director, Clinical Prof. Jihad Abdallah
Provides a broad scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services including: local anesthesia, simple and complicated teeth extraction, removal of remaining roots and impacted teeth, soft and hard tissue preprosthetic surgeries, dental implants, jaw cysts, tumors, and odontogenic infections, maxillary sinus, salivary glands, facial pain and temporomandibular joint diseases. In addition to a brief introductory courses for facial trauma, reconstruction, cleft lip and palate as well as orthognasic surgery.
