On June 30th, 2011 Beirut Arab University opened its 48th commencement
ceremony to award degrees to more than 1600 undergraduate and graduate
students within the premises of Debbieh Campus.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Alaa Eddine Terro representing the
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati , Deputy Dr. Ammar Houri
representing the Lebanese Ex-Prime Minister Mr. Foad Saniora, Deputy
Mohamad Hajjar representing Mr. Saeddine Rafik Hariri, General George
Salemeh representing Minister of Intern and Municipalities Marwan
Charbel, Deputy Prime minister and minister of Parliamentary Affairs in
Jordan Mr. Toufic Kreichan, Colonel Mohamad Moussa representing Minister
of Defense Fayez Ghoson, Mr. Ahmad Samawi representing the Ambassador of
Egypt in Lebanon Mr. Ahmad Bediawi, Prof. Joseph Mifsud, President of
EMUNI University, Dr. Mohamad Matar representing John Hopkins
University, Dr. Abada Serhan representing Future University in Cairo, ,
other Universities' Presidents, Head of the Board of Trustees of Wakf Al
Bir Wal Ihsan Mr. Toufic Houri, Secretary General of Beirut Arab
University Mr. Issam Houri, BAU staff members and students’ families and
friends.
The ceremony opened with the graduates' procession followed by the
processions of BAU's President, Deans and Faculty members. After playing
the Lebanese and the University Anthems, Head of the Public Relations
Department Mrs. Zina Ariss congratulated all the attendees on this
annual event which celebrates the success of the students and marks the
start of the long journey before them.
In his speech, President of Beirut Arab University Prof. Amr Galal El
Adawi expressed his pride towards the graduation of the 48th batch of
students. He emphasized the fact that Beirut Arab University has always
been committed to offering quality education since its establishment in
1960. This is marked by the university expansion in the different
Lebanese regions in Debbieh, Bekaa, and Tripoli.
Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Alumna Wafaa Saraya from the Faculty
of Arts, Mass Communication Department stated that it is time now for
the graduates to officially communicate with the society in order to
fulfill their ambitions and achieve high ranks in their communities.
The 1664 graduates were awarded their degrees among whom twenty seven
were granted Jamal Abdul Nasser Award for Academic Excellence. Also,
some professors were granted honorary shields for their generous
assistance and great accomplishments.
