Catalog Description:

Chemical and physical properties and classification of carbohydrates and lipids, molecular constituents and architecture of biological membranes.

Course Objectives:

The aim of the course is to explain the chemical and physical properties and classification of carbohydrates and lipid and to describe the molecular constituents and architecture of biological membranes.


Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO’s)

Knowledge and understanding:

    K1- Describe the structure of carbohydrates and their chemical and physical characteristics.

    K2- Identify the structure of lipids and explain their chemical and physical characteristics.

    K3- Understand the architecture of biological membranes.

Intellectual abilities:

    I1-  Differentiate between the characteristics of carbohydrates and those of lipids

    I2- Analyze the composition of plasma membrane

    P1- Compare between the different types of sugars.

    P2- Divide the lipids into different classes.

    P3- Conduct experiment to identify the classes of sugars
