Aim of Course

This course is aimed to give a solid foundation of Materials Science that may be required by chemists and in the course of their careers

Course Description

Introduction to materials science. Major classes of materials. Principles and applications of some spectroscopic and microscopic techniques for the characterization of materials.

Intended Learning Outcomes

    A. Knowledge and Understanding
    
    At the end of this course the students will be able to :

        a1. Define the terms of related to the materials science

        a2. Express the major classes of materials

        a3. Recognize the electron microscope as unique tool for the characterization of materials

        a4. Classify the different type of polymeric materials

        a5. indicate the polymerization mechanism.

    B. Intellectual Skills

    At the end of the course, students should be able to:

        b1.Summarize the Basic SEM design.

        b2.differentiate between different classes of materials
    
        b3. Asses the density of interstitial solid and the molecular weight of polymer.

        b4. Review the classification of polymeric materials.

    C. Professional and practical Skills

    At the end of the course, students should be able to:

        c1. Sketch the different types of unit cell, and the complex binary phase diagram for the Fe–C system.

        c2. Solve problems related to the given topics.

    D. General and Transferable Skills At the end of the course, students will be apple to:

        d1. Communicate with others positively

        d2. Think independently and solve problems on scientific basis.
