As Beirut Arab University plays a major role in
spreading awareness among the youth towards the various social hazards,
a discussion panel was held by the Egyptian novelist Issam Youssef, in
collaboration with “Mentor Arabia” (Drug Prevention for Children and
Youth), in Abdel Nasser Hall on the 17th of February 2011.
Youssef, the author of “Quarter Gram”, explained the
reasons behind this novel as it is based on the true story of a group of
young men who tried drugs and had to face the destructive reality of
such a poison which led to their physical and spiritual downfall in the
end.
The novel consists of 600 pages and, according to
Youssef, it deals not only with drug addicts, but also with all people
who need to protect themselves from such a social menace.
At the end, the discussion between Youssef and the
students focused on the means that might help hinder the prevalence of
such a disease in our societies.
