The Faculty Member Dr. Hussein Kassem, Assistant Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering at BAU has been appointed for a three-year membership as a young member on Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Non-Binder Components of Asphalt Mixtures -AFK30.
This appointment was based on Professor’s expertise and research as per the vision of the nomination set by experts from all over the world for this membership, and focuses on the role of Beirut Arab University in fostering academic and research development.
TRB is one of seven program units of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in the United States of America. All members are recognized as experts and are considered main contributors of current issues facing the profession.
The membership nomination is for a period of three years in which the member should contribute to the committees work in facilitating the exchange of transportation research information and results. The committee members work together to develop research problem statements in their area of interest, they review and recommend papers for publication as well as submit presentations at TRB Annual Meetings. Moreover, they organize Annual Meeting sessions in addition to committee meetings, workshops, and other activities.
Membership on each standing committee is limited to 25 individuals. In addition, 5 International Members and 4 Young Members may be appointed to foster participation outside of the United States and Canada and to engage succeeding generations of transportation professionals. Young members are individuals aged 35-years or younger who wish to contribute their expertise in a given area.
